Rita in the ’30s


Rita in a publicity photo for the 1935 film Dante’s Inferno. Shortly before, her name had been shortened from Margarita to Rita, and her role consisted of just one brief dance sequence.
Those on the set of the film were amazed that this horribly frightened girl could transform herself into the exotic and sensual dancer who appeared before the cameras. Throughout the filming, Rita would experience such nervousness that her hands would literally shake.
